A fresher harvest.A lighter footprint.
When less produce is lost, more of the water, land, energy and effort behind it can serve its intended purpose. That is the environmental opportunity we are working towards.
Preserve the harvest.
Respect everything
that went into it.
Less avoidable loss
A useful thermal buffer could help more produce remain marketable during short storage periods. The actual effect needs crop-specific control trials.
More careful energy use
Passive heat absorption avoids a compressor in the crate. Full energy accounting must include monitoring, PCM recharge and supporting logistics.
More value from resources
Reducing losses could preserve the value of irrigation water, agricultural inputs and transport already used to produce and move the crop.
Good food.
Hidden resources.
Explore what sits behind the produce. Preserving more food could help protect the value of those resources, too.
More of the harvest, valued.
The aim is to help more produce remain marketable. The actual loss reduction will need to be measured crop by crop.
Small changes.
Meaningful potential.
This simple planning tool shows how an assumed reduction in losses translates into produce mass. It does not predict EvaCRATE performance.

Lower impact starts
with better questions.
Recharge is part of the story
Test the PCM recharge method and include its energy, equipment and transport needs. “Passive at the crate” does not mean zero energy across the system.
Materials have trade-offs
Insulation, plywood, aluminium, PCM and electronics each carry manufacturing and end-of-life impacts. Reuse and repair should be evaluated alongside performance.
Refrigerant claims need boundaries
The proposed crate has no internal compressor refrigerant circuit. Any external refrigeration used for PCM recharge must still be considered.
Measure before claiming
Track produce preserved, operating energy, water used if evaporative methods are introduced, service life and disposal routes before quantifying environmental benefits.
Impact that
can be checked.
Potential is our starting point. Evidence is the goal.
We have not published a lifecycle assessment, verified emissions savings, carbon credits or certified environmental performance. These require clear methods, representative data and appropriate review.
Our research programme is designed to create a more defensible picture of where EvaCRATE helps, what it costs to operate, and what needs to improve.
